To set up a Temporary Tattoo Parlor

Necessities

1. Water - a plastic pail is good, you can also use a squeeze bottle.

2. Paper towels folded in a square for small tattoos, long for bands. These may be used again and again. Some people use sponges.

3. Alcohol (I add a little of the wintergreen alcohol so it doesn't smell like you're giving an injection) and cotton balls (napkins may also be used here).

4. Inexpensive napkins or paper towels for wiping dry and controlling drips.

5. Hole punch and pencil with eraser to center belly button rings.

6. A table.

7. Display boards with numbered pictures of the tattoos.

8. A large, easily seen "TEMPORARY TATTOOS" sign.

9. Tattoos filed by number for quick access.

Applying Tattoos

After the customer picks a tattoo, clean the skin using a cotton ball and alcohol. Wipe the area completely dry with a napkin.

Remove the cover on the tattoo. Press the tattoo on the skin and cover with a moist paper towel for 30 seconds. Raise a corner of the tattoo and make sure it is separating from the paper.  If not, apply water for as long as necessary.

If a tattoo has very thin parts, it may want to rise with the tattoo paper even though you have moistened it for a long time.  Try sliding the paper sideways before lifting it from the tattoo.

Remove paper backing and pat the tattoo with your moist paper towel to be sure it is securely attached. Let it air-dry.

Remind customer that tattoos can be removed with alcohol or any type of oil. Warn against skin lotion and suntan oil.

Be professional when applying tattoos to personal areas of the body. Act like it is nothing.

Be happy… your customers will be.

Pricing

Naturally, pricing varies.   You will have to scout your competition to see what 'applied' temporary tattoo are going for in your area.  Don't go by store prices.  You are really selling a service, not a little piece of merchandise.  People want to have them applied right then, so they can happily show them off and draw some attention.

In our beachside tourist community, for small to medium tattoos we charge $3.00 - $5.00.  Belly rings are $5.00 - $6.00.  6" ankle bands and bracelets are $5.00.  Larger tattoos such as 9" arm bands, ankle bands and tattoos for the back above a lady's bikini or shorts are $6.00.  Giant Tattoos are $8.00.  12" armbands are $10.00.

We have no problem getting these prices, in fact, many people have told us they are lower than nearby competition.  In Disney World, Busch Gardens and other theme parks, the prices are considerably higher.
